An animal welfare group caring for dogs at the Chernobyl nuclear disaster site in Ukraine recently released a video showing several blue stray dogs in the area, drawing widespread attention.

The Daily Mail reported on October 27th that a team called "Dogs of Chernobyl" wrote in a video description: "They weren't blue last week. We don't know why and are trying to capture them to find out. It's very likely they've been exposed to some kind of chemical."

The organization is an affiliate of the Clean Futures Fund, which stated that while the dogs' coat color is worrying, they appear "very active and healthy."

Since 2017, "Dogs of Chernobyl" has been dedicated to caring for approximately 700 dogs living in the 46.6 square kilometer exclusion zone.

The organization provides them with food and medical services annually.

These dogs are descendants of pets left behind during the evacuation of residents after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986. The Chernobyl disaster is one of the worst nuclear accidents in history.
